Pastor Stan Hoobing

Leadership:
Interim Pastor Stan Hoobing was born and raised Boise, Idaho with parents, Carl and Marian Hoobing along with his brother, Ray. He was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise. He attended Boise Public Schools and BJC (now called Boise State University) graduating with a BA from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. He attended Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA and graduated in 1968. From January 1969 thru the fall of 2002, Pastor Hoobing has served in various congregations in Washington and Oregon. In the fall of 2002, Pastor Stan and his family moved to Boise, Idaho and established residency in the house the he grew up in. He began another ministry venture that of being an Interim Pastor in the ELCA serving in 9 different parishes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. He came to Glendive on July 1, 2014.

Pastor Stan married the love of his life, Carol Kinzle on June 24, 1972. They have two grown children, Rachel who lives in the San Francisco Bay area and Matthew who lives in Boise, Idaho.

A message from Pastor Stan:
People often ask me what is “Interim Ministry”? Interim ministry begins when a regular called pastor leaves and before a new pastor is called by the congregation. Some interim pastors receive instruction and certification by ELCA Intentional Ministry organization. I served as a parish pastor for over 35 years and decided with approval of my synodical bishop to be an interim pastor.
Once an interim pastor is assigned by the synodical bishop, approved by the congregational council, a contract of services is agreed to and signed by representative of the congregational council, interim pastor and synodical bishop, then the interim serves as a regular pastor---leading worship services, preaching, administering sacraments, visitations and other pastoral duties. Moreover, he also seeks to help the congregation understand its history, look at current and future leadership styles, reconnects the congregation to cluster, synod and national church body, and helps the congregation to develop and openness to new pastoral and lay leadership styles.
Another component of interim ministry is working with the congregational Call Committee to develop a Ministry Site Profile which looks at the community, and congregational needs, pastoral skills needed and compensation package.
All this ministry takes a lot of prayer, patience, time, energy, a good sense of humor and a very understanding heart. If done right and in God's good time all works out for the benefit of the congregation, the pastor and the greater church.
