One of the Epiphany texts from the gospel of Mark gives us the following words about Jesus. "Jesus came proclaiming the good news that the time has been fulfilled and the Kingdom of God has come. Jesus said, "Repent and believe". The lesson goes on to record Jesus' call to his disciples to "Come and follow me and I will make you fish for people." The lesson is a simple outline of the first days of Jesus' ministry -- his baptism, wrestling with Satan in the wilderness, and now his call to others to follow him. We can view the lesson as just about Jesus or we can see in these words the wider call Jesus makes to the rest of the world, a call he makes for all time. The word "repent" alone is a suggestion for a 180 degree in our lives. Jesus is calling us to live out the "good news", that GOD lives among us and the life we live in the Kingdom God has prepared is one of peace. It is where serving others is key to all we do and say. Jesus has a job for us to do in our lifetime. As we learn and follow Him, we will come to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior. |
